Here is a good review of 3 different AM3 motherboards from 3 different manufacturers. Each seem to have their ups and downs, though their are clearly strengths to each one. The Asus has the features and the MSI has the OC ability. ECS seems to be a little mundane for their price.
This is a very good article for anyone considering building an AM3 based system.
Choosing the right board for socket AM3 CPUs depends on your needs. Are you a veteran overclocker, wanting easy access to all the knobs and levers? Then the MSI 790FX-GD70 is your pick. Want solid performance with lots of amenities? Check out the ASUS M4A78T-E. The ECS A790GXM-AD3 is the odd man out here, though if ECS cuts the price a bit, it could be a contender.
What is true is that AMD is clawing its way back up the performance tree, although its CPUs can only do that through overclocking and pricing. But it’s good to see some level of competition taking on the Intel juggernaut. If you’re on a budget, and Core i7 is too rich for your blood, maybe you should take a look at AMD, along with one of these feature rich, reasonably priced boards.
