At the 2010 CES there was a huge amount of buzz about upcoming HDTV 3D technology. With the huge success of movies like “UP” and “Avatar” in 3D at theaters, it seems like a natural extension to bring this technology home.
Some of the things to note about the current 3D movement:
- You will need to buy a new 3D equiped HDTV. Your current TV, no matter how expensive it was, will not support 3D TV.
- You will need to wear 3D glasses to see the 3D effects.
- Everyone is saying how awesome “Avatar” was in 3D and want it at home. The thing to remember, this movie had the highest budget ever, in any movie. There is no way you can expect the other 3D content to be up to this caliber, in fact you can almost assume that most of it will be bad.
- One good note is that most existing Bluray players (most notably the PS3) will be able to play 3D Blurays.
Do you think this technology will be viable in the home theater arena? Vote and please leave a comment on how you think this will play out.
