As the video game industry strives to make video games more lifelike, one researcher has created a game where players control actual forms of life. Stanford University’s Ingmar Riedel-Kruse and his lab group have developed a series of simple games consisting of single-celled paramecium which players are able to maneuver through a virtual world of blocky 8-bit Atari obstacles.
