DC Universe Online, SOE newest entry into the MMORPG market, is apparently a big hit. So big of a hit that the PS3 version of the game has outsold the PC version. Normally, this isn’t news worthy. But, until this example, MMORPG style games have never (in their very few example) connected with the audience as well as the PC market has. But, on the other hand, this is the first time there has been a real valid option for a next-gen MMORPG on console during a time when having an internet connected console is the norm. The last big one (in our minds) was Final Fantasy 11. But, some might argue it came before it’s time (in console land at least). When it launched, it wasn’t normal to have your PS2 online and required extra hardware to do it.
John Smedley, president of SOE, confirmed over Twitter the new MMO title has become the company’s fastest-selling game ever since it launched earlier this month. It was also #1 in sales on Steam last week.
